WHILE WE'RE YOUNG: The Lyrics, Message and Meaning

I've received more than a few requests for the lyrics to this song. 

Originally inspired by both the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and the ensuing Women's March which took place across the world the following day, the song begins initially as a message of despair but is ultimately one of hope, unity, love and commitment to stand for all that is beautiful and life-affirming, even in the face of shameless displays of hate, intolerance and darkness, which we see all around us today.

It should also be noted that the term 'young' has little to do with biological age. It's a state of optimism, joy and aliveness most often seen in children, but which of course can be cultivated and experienced through all stages of life. Typically the older we get, the more this state has to be consciously chosen, as its easy to get cynical, resigned and even bitter after one-too-many soul-crushing rejections, disappointments, losses and/or betrayals. However its been my experience that its only once this state is consciously chosen, after coming out the other side of tremendous pain, that it becomes truly authentic, enduring and a part of who we are.
